Boys & Girls Club of Rockford Receives Grant To Help Give Youth A Safe After School Environment

Nashville, TN (September 19, 2017)Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO) has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Rockford. The grant, funded through its Driving Great Futures grant program will be used to help the expand programming to provide a safe place for children and teens at the Blackhawk Club located at 330 15th Avenue.

The Blackhawk Club serves youth in an area of the city that is attempting to combat its high crime rate. The grant will allow the Club to extend its hours, remaining open six days a week until 10:00 p.m. The youth in the Blackhawk neighborhood now have a productive and peaceful alternative to the streets during vulnerable evening and weekend hours.

“Research shows that children kids and teens who visit Boys & Girls Club have more positive outcomes, which is why Driving Great Futures is so important for all of us,” said Chip Stoner, President / CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Rockford. “The BSRO grant allowed us not only to expand our programming, but also to install security cameras, engage additional community resources and add staff so that we could avoid distractions and focus exclusively on providing these vulnerable kids with meaningful experiences right here in Rockford. The impact of those funds cannot be overstated.”

In its first two years, BSRO stores, customers and partners nationwide have raised nearly three million dollars for Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) to make a difference in communities where the company operates. The Driving Great Futures partnership has featured an annual fundraising promotion across the entire BSRO retail network of 2,200 company-owned tire and automotive service centers nationwide. Driving Great Futures supports BGCA’s national “Great Futures” campaign and helps BGCA Clubs provide a safe, productive place for kids and teens during critical out-of-school hours.

“At BSRO, we are invested in the communities where we live, work and do business, and we feel a strong responsibility to be active and committed citizens within the local neighborhoods,” said , Bridgestone Retail Operations.  “Every day, we get to see the results of our partnership and the great work that is being done by the Boys & Girls Club of Rockford to help kids in our community have a chance at success. It is an honor to be part of this important initiative.”

The 2017 Driving Great Futures campaign is underway through October 8. During this period, customers in all Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, Hibdon Tires Plus and Wheel Works locations can round up their purchases to the nearest dollar to support Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Some of the BSRO key vendor partners also are supporting the promotion. Shell will contribute 25 cents for every Pennzoil® high-mileage or synthetic blend oil change; Interstate Batteries is donating 15 cents for every free battery test on customer vehicles; and ITW/QMI will give 25 cents for each Renu 500 Fuel System Cleaner purchase.
